u About the Webinar u

The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted various aspects of our lives, including the field of education. Language learners, in particular, have been significantly affected by the pandemic and the subsequent shift towards online learning. The transition from exclusively online language learning due to the pandemic to a return to physical classrooms throughout the recovery and post-pandemic phase requires careful attention. However, studies involved in the areas focusing on the learners' perspective during the transitional phase are lacking. As the data collection is still ongoing, this talk will first present the background of different regions between Malaysia and Japan and explain the language teaching and learning situation in each region. Then, the talk will cover the research instruments used in the study that aim to gather insights and opinions regarding the experiences of language learners during recovery and post-pandemic phases in language learning. The research includes a questionnaire-based survey as well as interview data to gather comprehensive insights from language learners to delve deeper into individual experiences. We believe that this work provides significant value for educators and practitioners in the field of language teaching and learning. Results will include information on the challenges learners face during the transition from years of online instruction to in-class settings, which can be implemented to optimize language learning approaches and design instructional strategies that cater to learners' specific needs and preferences in various contexts.
