The Presidents' Forum of Southeast and South Asia and Taiwan Universities (abbr. SATU Presidents' Forum) aims to provide a venue for academics to share their valuable experiences to improve higher education and international cooperation in the region. In addition, various youth activities have been conducted to strengthen the cultural exchange and academic collaboration for all member university students. The 2^nd Student Business Plan Competition aims to create a challenging and unforgettable experience for all student participants.

The mission in 2010 of the Student Business Plan Competition is to continue academic cooperation between students in Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries by creating a challenging learning environment. We believe any and all opportunities of intercultural experiences and interactions with fellow peers from different countries and socio-economic backgrounds are invaluable. Over the course of a three day competition, students, along with their newly-formed teammates, will work together quickly and efficiently to put together an innovative business plan. This plan will cater to the needs of a company while also addressing the issue of sustainability.

Undergraduates (restricted to seniors) and current graduate students from member universities of SATU Presidents’ Forum are invited to participate.

Students interested in participating in the business plan competition should submit an essay on the subject「Improvements of Social, Economic, and Environmental Metabolisms in Asia」for first-round evaluation.

Materials to be submitted should include (1)applicant's basic information form[Download]; (2) a title/cover page; (3) a five-page essay. The essay should adhere to the following guidelines:

Papers should be sent in electronic form to SATU Presidents’ Forum International Secretariat satu@conf.ncku.edu.tw no later than May 7. Applicants will receive email notification once SATU International Secretariat has received your submission.

Judges will comprise of professors from SATU member Universities, and papers will be evaluated on an anonymous basis. Papers will be judged on the following components: Originality, Objectives, Reasoning, Feasibility, Organization, and Style. Late submissions will not be reviewed.

After the first-round evaluation, students with the highest scores from each country will be selected to participate in the final competition to be held from September 27-October 1, 2010. To ensure fairness and diversity, the distribution of finalists we will accept from each country is as follows:

*Note: Though Hong Kong and Macau are not yet members of SATU, students from these countries are invited to participate, as they were in 2008 to the first ever Youth Forum.

Finalists will receive an information package via postal and electronic mail with complete details regarding the Final Competition to be held in Taiwan during Sept. 27 to Oct. 1. Students who are selected will be divided into teams, working together to create innovative business plans. All finalists will be furnished with traveling expenses, accommodations, and meals during the competition. Additionally, certificates and other forms of appreciation will be awarded to the top teams. <br>

  • • Content: Students should demonstrate an understanding of the sustainable development challenges their home countries are confronted with. The essay must include some background, the current situation, as well as personal thoughts on the situation and ideas/suggestions for improvement.
    • Length: The essay may not exceed five pages in length. (Students are encouraged to use graphical representation in the form of graphs, charts, or diagrams.)
