► Introduction

The 2016 SATU Presidents’ Forum General Assembly was held at NCKU on November 11th–12th, with the theme “Student Learning Mobility and Regional Collaboration.” Because the Southeast and South Asian region is facing common challenges in economic and societal progress, it is essential for our region to establish a pan-regional identity. The European Union’s Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students (Erasmus+), which made its debut in 1987, has successfully illustrated how the promotion of student mobility can benefit the individual participants, encourage international connections, inspire language learning, and break down institutional barriers.

 

With the Erasmus+ program in mind, delegates from prestigious universities of Southeast and South Asian countries shared a broad range of ideas and examples on how best to pursue, support, and resolve challenges in establishing such cross-country education collaborations. These strategies were presented in four sessions, titled “Educational Aspects of the Regional Policy,” “Academic-Industry Collaboration,” “The Experience in the Student Exchange Program,” and “Addressing the Pros and Cons in Promoting Student Mobility.” All the participants agreed that student mobility can play an instrumental role in developing and shaping our pan-regional ideology.
