2013 SATU Steering Committee Meeting

On October 27th and 28th, 15 representatives from 16 Steering Committee member schools from nine countries assembled at the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), where the International Secretariat of the SATU Presidents’ Forum is based. In the Steering Committee Meeting, the International Secretariat reported on the activities of this year. The Steering Committee representatives exchanged their insights on topics pertaining to the forum’s future development, including the implementation of the SATU biennial membership fee, the Taiwan Comprehensive University System (TCUS) International Summer School, the SATU Joint Research Scheme, and the 2014 SATU Calendar.
The keynote session for this year focused on Sustainable Eco Campus Initiatives. The two keynote speakers included Prof. Awangku Hassanal Bahar Pg Bagul, the Director of the EcoCampus Management Centre at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah, who shared the experiences of their EcoCampus® Initiative, and Prof. Ching-Chang Lee, the Director of NCKU Center for Environmental Protection, Safety and Health, who shared the idea of a Green Campus. The concept of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and how it is applicable in this region, was also one of the focal points of the meeting.
