2014 SATU Summer Intensive Program Announcement
Higher Education Reform in the 21st century Asia
Workshop on MOOCs

Application Deadline: May 8th (Thu), 2014

Workshop Date

July 21-24(Mon-Thu), 2014

Overview

To cultivate the competence of students, the outcome based curriculum has evolved. Under the reality of limited resources of time and venue, also to reduce the power distance between teachers and learners, a Massive Open Online Course(MOOC) emerges to be one of the solution of learning effectiveness. A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC; English pronunciation: /muːk/) is a recent development in distance education, it is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. In addition to traditional course materials such as videos, readings, and problem sets, MOOCs provide interactive user forums that help build a community for students, professors, and teaching assistants (TAs).

“2014 SATU Summer Intensive Program- Higher Education Reform in 21 century Asia -Workshop on MOOCs” is organized by Center for Teaching and Learning Development and SATU International Secretariat in National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). This workshop is aiming to emphasize current online learning trend and bring higher education into a new era. Hopefully, this will bring novel teaching ideas to our participants from Southeast and South Asia and Taiwan member universities.

Through this workshop, we are confident to increase, strengthen, support and coordinate the research network and craft the potentially feasible and applicable adaptations or strategies for future policies in respective countries.

Tuition Waiver and accommodation support

SATU International Secretariat offers tuition waiver to maximum 40 qualified applicants (15 from Southeast and South Asia and 25 from Taiwan member universities). Airfare and transportation in Taiwan is at participants’ own cost. However, to encourage participation from abroad, SATU International Secretariat offers four nights double room accommodation (each room accommodating two persons, arranged by the International Secretariat) for the maximum 15 participants from Southeast and South Asia member universities. (If a single room is preferred, the participant may choose to pay on his/her own extra NTD 1,000/night for it). For participants from non-member universities, the tuition fee for the program is NTD 20,000(about 667 USD).

Eligibility and application procedure

The workshop is open for university faculty members, post-doctor researchers, graduate students, and senior technicians or staff from SATU member and observer universities. English will be used as the official workshop language. Those who are Interested in taking part should apply online by May 8 (Thu), 2014. Final decision for workshop acceptance will be sent to all applicants by May 15(Thu), 2014.
